Categories of Water Damage in your Henderson Home

2/26/2022 (Permalink)

Water damage comes in all shapes and sizes!

Did you know there are three different types of water damage? Water can be a serious issue that causes more than water damage if left untreated by a professional. We have examples and definitions below to help you better understand the three different categories of water.

Category 1: "Clean Water"

This is water from a clean source, such as a broken clean water supply line or faucet. If left untreated, category 1 water can quickly degrade into category 2 or 3 water depending upon such factors as time, temperature, and contact with contaminants.

Category 2: "Gray Water"

This water has a significant level of contamination that could cause discomfort or illness if ingested. Sources for category 2 water may include washing machine overflow; toilet overflow with some urine, but no feces; or dishwasher overflow.

Category 3: "Black Water"

This water is grossly unsanitary and could cause severe illness or death if ingested, and any contact should be avoided. Sources for category 3 water could include flooding from rivers or streams, water from beyond the toilet trap, water from the toilet bowl with feces, or standing water that has begun to support microbial growth.

Knowing these categories could save you time, money, and a possible health risk. Call us today for more information on water damage in your home or business.

Clogged Gutters: Gutters can be one of the main reasons behind water damage. When a gutter is not in the right place or placed correctly, it cause create water damages. The best way to combat this is to keep them clear of excess remnants, and make sure they can properly drain.

Roof Damage: Storms are unpredictable. When a storm comes through it can leave behind a lot of damage. Even if your home is structurally sound in most areas, it can cause roof leaks.

It's almost Ice time

10/30/2020 (Permalink)

It's almost that time!

Burst Pipes

When December, January, and February hit-- one of the water damages that occurs most often for home owners is when a pipe freezes, bursts, and then causes heinous amounts of water damage in a home. When a family goes on vacation or away for a few days (or even overnight,) and the temperature drops below a certain degree the pipes will freeze. There are several ways to combat that:

  • Wrapping the pipes
  • Leaving cabinets open
  • Letting faucets drip

Ice Dams

Another creation of water damage from ice, are ice dams. The definition of an ice buildup is a long the edge of your roof) is what we refer to as an ice dam. The ice builds up and won’t let the water run off your roof when the ice begins to thaw. Roofs are great for shedding water off your home, but they are not designed to hold water. That  water will then run into your home causing a lot of damage. While the last bit of warm weather is still here it’s a perfect time to prepare.

  • Be aware of areas on your roof where ice generally builds up.
  • Have the insulation in your home or building inspected to ensure its well-insulated.
  • Consider having heat cable and rain gutters installed in areas that tend to build up ice to help ensure you don’t have any problems.

Water damage can happen to anyone's home or business. Try these tips this winter to prevent these emergencies from happening. If you need water damage help, call our offices today for more information.
